My Students
My students are energetic, fun-loving, eager second graders who look forward to coming to school every day. My students face many challenges such as disabilities, lack of supplies, and language barriers because their native language is not English, but despite these challenges, they are eager and ready to learn.
Every day, I strive to meet their various needs in any way that I can.
I try to create an engaging and peaceful work environment so their minds can soar! By making sure they have what they need to be academically successful, safe, healthy, and secure, I am helping them to be as productive as possible.
My students live in a low-income, inner-city neighborhood, and they have struggles at home. It is my job to make sure they are able to accomplish what they wish to in school. One of my goals, as a teacher, is to provide things that my children are lacking and to create a positive learning environment. My students love to experience new things and visit new places such as the many field trips that I take them on. I also try to keep their bellies full and their minds open to learning new things.
My Project
For several years, with the help of DonorsChoose, I have had snack bins in my classroom for my students to get or earn. As I look at what the world is like right now, I feel that it is even more important that I make sure that I have this resource to help offset any struggles and hunger that my students might be feeling when we return to the classroom.
This project is for a variety of healthy snacks such as granola bars, single nut packs, pretzels, and fruit snacks that my students will be able to get to eat in class or take home.
When I create my projects for snacks, I make sure that they are healthy and hope that I create a love for healthy alternatives to what they might otherwise choose. I think it is important for me as a teacher to provide these snacks to be able to provide them with resources to help them.
Typically I also have several students that are always hungry and request to take leftover breakfast to lunch or home at the end of the day. My snack bins provide a variety of snacks for my students to choose from that are also healthy choices. Due to our lunch schedule, many of my students get hungry because our lunch is either very early or really late. This project will help my students by having access to healthy snacks, and therefore, they will be able to be more productive and engaged in the lessons and activities that we are completing.
