My Project

These snack shack students with disabilities are diverse and capable in their own individual ways. They have blossomed in confidence this past year as we pilot our noodle and cocoa snack store during the recess period at our school. What originally started as a hot drink cafe for adults has morphed into a full blown operation in which students take turns in various roles. Not only has our student store helped the students learn real-world vocational skills such as wearing a uniform to get suited up for work, but they are also learning soft vocational skills which build work stamina and work standard etiquette. Other vocational skills, food safety and workplace standards, and personal hygiene. These skills translate over to their personal individual academic goals and objectives has been a blessing to see the way that this snack store has let me know that looks like helped increase their social interactions and integration with the general student body. Prices just cover the actual food and no money is made from this as all funds are reinvested in the cafe stock.

Durable equipment such as real-life store signs, a cart for delivering and selling to various locations on school campus, and various other much-needed supplies can make this pilot project into a long-term reality with a little help.

The store has been in need of more electric kettles, hot and cold cups, a cup organizer, straws, covers, sprinkles, and supplies that make it easier for them to access supplies. An advertising board would elevate our snack store to the next level and will give my students a sense of pride and confidence in themselves which can show their peers and customers that we all have a place in society.
