Teenagers are bottomless pits! My students are no different. Many of the kids that come through my room each day ask me "Do you have a snack?" If it had to come out of my budget the answer would likely be "No, I'm sorry." Through projects like this one I can say "Go grab one snack out of the closet."
Learning is hard; learning while hungry is nearly impossible.
Imagine sitting in a class you are only mildly interested in, with a teacher you only kind of like, and your stomach is GROWLING because you woke up late, and missed breakfast. You want to due well, but you can't focus on anything except where you can find food.
My hope is that through these projects this scenario doesn't happen with my students, and the others in my school. Teaching in a low-income school means some of our families are struggling and I want to help them in any way that I can. Last school year I was able to keep a closet stocked and kids preformed better. This year, I would like to do the same, just a little bigger.
