Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

MBA is a magnet school in New Haven, Connecticut, and is populated with students from not only New Haven, but surrounding suburban schools. All of my students are freshmen and are required to take my Theatre class to fulfill their Arts requirement. Most of my students are non-arts kids and are often stressed about having to take a Theatre class. At the end of the school year, I get many thank-you notes from my students thanking me for helping them feel more comfortable about not only speaking in class but speaking in front of the class. Many have stated that they dreaded coming to class but in the end, were thankful for it.

My Project

Many of my students come from low-income families and rely on the school breakfast and lunch for their meals. These meals are not very big, especially for teenagers. I try to keep snacks in stock for them to help fill their bellies throughout the day, and sometimes I will send a few homes. I also like to reward hard work and good behavior. Masks are required to be worn in school and many of the kids do not like it, especially the blue masks that are supplied. I started buying the masks in black, and now I have a line at my door in the morning for them, since they " match their outfits " better and they feel more comfortable wearing them.

By donating to my project you will be helping my students be able to focus better by helping them feel more confident with a mask they like and by keeping the hunger pains away during the day.
