My Project
My classroom is full of bright, resilient, and curious second-grade scholars in an underserved, urban school. Many come from low-income households and often arrive at school without the nutrition they need to thrive. Despite the challenges they face, they come ready to learn and grow every single day. These kids have big dreams and I want to make sure hunger isn’t the reason they fall behind.
This project, Snack It Forward, will provide nutritious snacks such as granola bars, applesauce cups, crackers, and fruit snacks to keep students focused and energized throughout the school day.
Hunger can make it hard to concentrate, learn, and behave in class. By having a small snack available mid-morning and mid-afternoon, my scholars can stay on track without the burden of an empty stomach.
I’ve seen firsthand how a healthy snack can reset a child’s mood and motivation. It’s a small gesture that can make a huge difference. With your support, we can remove one more barrier between our students and success. Providing snacks not only supports learning; it builds a culture of care. Scholars will be more attentive, participate more in lessons, and know they are supported in every way possible. This project also opens opportunities for lessons in kindness, responsibility, and even service as we "snack it forward" and promote sharing, gratitude, and healthy habits.
