This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in New York. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes. They are overcoming social and emotional barriers each day to receive an education.
My students are active and enthusiastic.
They are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and are constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning. My students work hard despite the challenges they face. Many students stay after school, participate in after-school clubs and activities and are always striving to be and do, better for themselves and for others.
My students come to school hungry for knowledge, but they can be distracted by their rumbling stomach as they wait for lunch. Food is a very basic need. I would like to make sure students have snacks available whenever they might be hungry.
When students are not hungry, they are more focused, there are fewer behavioral issues, and they are able to focus on their work!
A healthy snack can help alleviate hunger pains and allow students to concentrate on their schoolwork and life essentials. A fed student is a happy student.
