it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a teacher in a Title I school, located in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, NY. Many of my students are from low income households. Some of my students live in temporary housing/shelters and they have limited resources. Some of my students get their meals from school. Sometimes they come in late and the school cafeteria has stopped serving breakfast leaving my students hungry until lunch time. Other students are very picky eaters and will not eat the school lunch or are still hungry even after eating their lunch. In addition some students are in school from as early as 7:15 am and as late as 5:30 pm, which creates a long day for them and snacks will help. I would like to have snacks for my students because they are often hungry and do not have access to extra food in the classroom. During snack time only some students bring in a snack from home and they feel sad or left out because they don't have a snack. The water fountains in the classroom are not functioning properly and we have been told not to allow students to drink from them. Some students do not bring water from home and they are frequently stating they are thirsty.
As adults it is difficult to get things done when we are hungry, imagine how much more difficult it is for my students who are 4 or 5 years old.
Help me get snacks, cereal, and water to help curb their hunger or thirst throughout the day.
