My Students

I have been teaching at the same Title I school for the last 17 years, and every year is better than the last. If I had to describe my students in one word, it would be amazing! They are determined, dedicated, enthusiastic, and engaged. We are in the midst of our year-long journey of learning full of new experiences and challenges. I know that they are willing to work hard, take risks, and make incredible progress.

Every year I teach my students important information like how to read and write and do math problems.

Still, in the end, they teach me some pretty important things, too, like how to enjoy the moment, show empathy and understanding for each other during difficult times, be flexible, conquer challenges, power through difficult situations, and how to be resilient. I am lucky to have them!

My Project

Right now our district is 100% virtual. My students and I have been engaging in virtual learning since September. The pandemic has stressed the financial resources of my students' families.

This project is for snacks and convenience foods to send home to my students.

My school system provides meals to students through our food distribution center. However, many of my students are picky eaters or do not have access to snacks during the day. A hungry kindergartener is a grouchy kindergartener. It is very difficult to get students to participate, be engaged, and be excited about learning when they are hungry and grouchy. This project would supply each of my students a bag of snacks that would get through those times when they need a quick snack or convenience food item to get them through to lunch. Some families are unable to pick up our school meals due to work schedules, child care, and other responsibilities. This project would make sure they have some quick snacks that will make sure their child is fed with snacks and foods that they like. A full tummy makes for an excited, engaged kindergarten student who is ready to learn and make great progress. Help make sure my students are ready to learn every day during virtual learning.
