This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

About My Students

The amazing student submitting this project is Micah. This soon to be high schooler is smart, funny, hard-working, and, in his own words, loving and energetic. He loves animals! He values community, and he wants to put this value into action! He is a thoughtful and caring individual who wants to make a difference at our school.

This student has a lot of leadership potential, and in this project, he really shows how much she cares about making our school a safe and nurturing place. Micah decided to write a grant to get a food box for students who are hungry. He wants to make sure everyone in our school has enough to eat. Micah would appreciate your help!

This project is about the 5 C's of 21st Century Learning: communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and caring. In writing this grant, this student is learning about writing and critical thinking, but perhaps most importantly, he is focused on empathy and helping out his classmates. In addition, he is thinking about how he can create a more loving and inclusive school community. I am grateful to Micah for reaching out to help students in need.

In Their Own Words

Ms.L and I see students coming into the class everyday asking friends for food. So Ms.L goes out of her way and buys Trail Mix and Almonds and ask if they would like some food. And A lot of people take her up on it because they only get one serving at lunch. Ms.L and I thought of having food boxes for kids that are hungry because people can't learn when they're hungry. When you're hungry it's hard to concentrate...people just think about food.

I will unpack the food and put it all in the box. And the boxes will be near Ms.L's desk. They will be organized. I'll put the drinks in one box and the fruit in another. The bars and popcorn will go in the biggest box. Everyday i will make sure people that come in won't be hungry.

People always go to class hungry and Ms.L and I want them to not feel hungry but be able to be full and ready to learn more. This project is important so kids won't be suffering. No one likes seeing other people hungry. I am thankful that I have this opportunity to try to help out the students in our school. And I want to thank you for your support!
