This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
PES is nestled in one of the oldest communities in the beautiful city of Atlanta. Our school is a diverse community of inquisitive, creative, and reflective thinkers. PES's student body exemplifies the rich, diverse and cultural dream, that the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. dreamed would one day exist. The students of PES attend school daily equipped with progressive ideas, and a desire to grow as balanced, and knowledgeable thinkers. Our school diversity is comprised of students with families of annual incomes of $10,000 per year to $80,000 per year. We service a population in which 100% of our students receive free lunch, however it is our mission to foster student ideas and strengths ready to leave their footprint in a progressive global society.
My Project
Our 5th grade students experience a very rigorous academic day. Classes begin each day at 8:20a.m. Students see a total of 5 different teachers per day, with 50 minutes of instruction. Students are challenged with reading, writing, math, and project based learning science and social studies. With the exception of those students who take advantage of the school's free breakfast program, our students don't receive a nutritional meal until lunch. Unfortunately, because we are the Seniors of the school, our lunch time isn't until 1:30 pm, 1 hour prior to dismissal. Having a mid day healthy snack will assist students with the much needed fuel, growing bodies require to work to the fullest potential.
