Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Many of the students with disabilities that I teach come up to my classroom to escape the lunchroom. Students welcome the time to relax and interact with each other in a calm environment. My students need fun games and crafts that they can enjoy.
My students are from a low socioeconomic area.
They are very energetic and enthusiastic about learning. They are hardworking students who often do not have home support. They also don't often have the chance to interact with friends in a positive environment. They need opportunities to express themselves through art and develop and maintain appropriate peer relationships.
My Project
My students will utilize the games and crafts during their lunch period. Students will be able to chose between expressing themselves artistically using the crafting supplies or by socializing with peers while playing a board game. They will learn how to positively interact with each other, and for some students they will have the opportunity to create and maintain friendships. This will positively impact self-esteem and confidence which will in turn effect academic performance.
My project will change students' lives for the better because it will give them a chance to form lasting friendships.
Middle school is a very hard age for students especially socially. My project will foster peer relationships while having fun!
