This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from a school in the district where over 80% of the students are poverty-stricken. All students at this school receive free or reduced-price breakfast, and lunch, as well as two snacks per week. The school consists of over 730 elementary school students.
My class consists of eighteen third-grade students who are in a low-income community.
The class has a diverse group of students. Many students in my class are part of the ELL program at this school. This means that most of my students do not speak English as their first language. There are also students who have IEPs for Special Education and Speech Services. This is the biggest elementary school in the whole community, consisting of as many kids as the high schools. Because of this, we stretch materials as far as we can for our students. With students also coming from a low-income community, it leaves teachers constantly picking up the slack to make sure all students' needs are met. Although there are many challenges I face daily, there is nowhere else I would rather make a difference than this school!
My Project
There is a basic need in every classroom. Kids come to school each year without necessary supplies. I am getting a head start for next year's students because it is only fair for everyone to have what they need.
Last year I supplied multiple students with all the needed school supplies and here's a way for me to ensure my students this year and next have some of the basic necessary supplies that we are still struggling to stock up on.
Scissors are always going missing around here and more will definitely be needed. Folders were a huge struggle to keep on hand this year. Pens will also be beneficial for myself with all the many documents that must be written. Any help at all is so appreciated!
