Many a teacher's dream would be to see their class as a streamlined sailboat sailing smoothly on calm waters. LOL! While there are many factors beyond our control that can cause waves, what we can do as teachers is try our best to organize our classrooms for efficient learning.
Having a bright new carpet with colorful squares will help my students settle down quickly during floor time.
The marked lines will prevent me from having to tell them where to sit and to move over. It will be a nice change from our drab and weary mono color navy blue carpet. Having a drying rack for art, will provide a safe, designated space for students to dry their finished work. I will label the racks so they will know exactly where to put their art without having to ask the popular question, "Where do I put this?" Having shelves will help students access all the different papers they need during the writing process for planning, drafting, and checking their work. The different colored portfolios will help them store their art and writing papers. The tagboard will be used as shelf liners to help us organize our cubby holes with students names and numbers. Finally, the large electric pencil sharpener will allow students to get their pencils ready during non-instructional times. The quiet hand held ones, will allow them to sharpen their pencils during instruction time without having to interrupt class learning.
All the materials and equipment will serve to help make my students more independent and self directed. Our learning can become more efficient and focused so we can be more like a ship sailing in smooth waters!
