Smith Tales From a Distance

My Students

I have 18 amazing students who I miss so very much. They are all from unique families and their daily routines each look so very much different.

Seeing their smiling faces via Google Meet and in picture texts from their parents has been some of my favorite moments from each week.

In third grade, we have sent students both paper and digital packets to continue their learning during this time. I check in daily with our students on a learning platform and it is amazing to see their faces via video.

We have been blessed because many students are able to complete their work via our digital platform using school Chromebooks. There are students that do not have access to the internet though and they are completing their work via paper. I make weekly phone calls to all students and check-in to see how they are feeling and what they're up to.

Many of my students have parents that are working out of the home at some point during the day. I would like to create a project for them to have fun and engaging resources to grow, play, and learn all day.

My Project

It's a new world teaching at home. I haven't written this many letters and postcards in the past two years. I'm excited to do this more in the future now!

The postage will help cover some of the mail I'm sending each week.

Every time a student sends me a card, I mail one back. I'd love to be able to send them a postage-paid envelope every time, too. The address labels are so that I can print their addresses out and have them ready to go.

I'm hanging each of their pictures and cards on a door in my house. I am using masking tape right now, but I'm not sure that's the best for that surface. The putty and tape are to better secure these fun items. I use this space to record all my videos to my students and hope they love seeing a part of them where I'm at.

I found these Superhero notecards and they are the perfect motivation for my students. I can't wait to include those in the notes I send.

The TPT gift card will be used to purchase materials to use with my students digitally and also to use on special event projects for my students.

The scissors, staples, and Expo markers are to continue with video creation and will help with other projects I'm working on for them at home. Thank you for investing in my students and our digital classroom!
