it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are in a Fourth/Fifth grade, self-contained, special education classroom in a high poverty neighborhood in the South Bronx.
The students have been classified learning disabled or speech impaired.
Many of the students are English Language Learners, and all are performing several years below grade level in all subject areas. While the students and the school face many of the challenges that seem to come with a high poverty neighborhood, the students are happy, motivated, and the school does a great job, under the circumstances of creating a safe, comfortable haven in the midst of periodic violence and chaos.
My Project
Often, I will have to scan or upload pages from textbooks or literature in advance so that I can annotate or fill in examples on the screen allowing the whole class to see and follow along. This is time-consuming and requires a significant amount of advance preparation and doesn't allow me to use documents or texts on the fly.
My students are visual learners and work better when I can take them step-by-step through examples.
This document camera will help my students literally be on the same page when we are going through lessons in our math books, writing examples, or when underlining and annotating important information in texts. It will also allow me to work in examples in real time rather than having to upload everything in advance.
