My Students

I teach in a high poverty school where most of my students come from very rough backgrounds. I want to help create an environment where all my students feel safe, valued, and accepted. By creating a positive learning community my students will feel like a part of a family.

My students live in an impoverished community, and face more than their share of obstacles on a daily basis.

Despite the challenges in their environment, my students are inquisitive, intelligent and passionate about wanting to better themselves and the community.

My Project

Having a digital camera in our classroom would provide my students the opportunities to capture moments that otherwise might be missed. It would be wonderful to have access to a camera at any time to document learning, the stages of a project or experiment, for students to create their own digital projects, to share proud moments, to share celebrations, or to display images of our classroom and students. A digital camera has the potential of providing access not only to my classroom, but to future third graders for years. With the camera, I hope to teach my students how to take pictures of the activities that we are doing throughout the year, download them onto a computer, and with my help, create a video that will cherish those memories forever.

My students will learn how to use the camera to create movies and PowerPoint presentations of what they've learned all year. I believe having access to a digital camera would provide my students opportunities to support their learning. Just like your family has photo albums, our classroom "family" will have photos to share which document their school day and their learning.
