Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In our low-income/high poverty school district where 100% of the students qualify for free lunch, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am determined to provide and expose them to the technology and skills they need to succeed in the 21st century. They are curious, eager to learn, and desperate to please anyone who takes an interest! My students don't have technology at home so I'm looking to provide it in our classroom for them to experience. Keeping them engaged and learning new ways to incorporate technology is a goal.
My Project
Math and play dough go together like peanut butter and jelly! There are so many activities my first graders will love using play dough for during math. Using such an engaging and hands on tool will bring important concepts into focus.
We will use play dough to make numbers, create math stories, measure, weigh, cut shapes and mold fractions!
Having tactile number lines will allow students to quickly solve addition and subtraction problems. It is vital to build a strong mathematical foundation with young learners. Having these highly interactive tools will help keep first grade minds engaged and curious.
