I am an 8th grade Louisiana History teacher in Denham Springs, Louisiana. Because I teach a state history class, resources are very limited. Most of the information I use in my lessons comes from the Internet and other computer based resources. I currently have an LCD projecter attached to a new computer that I use to present material to the students each day. While it is a wonderful resource, I would love to have a Smart Board to pair it with. Since I do not have access to a computer lab, it would be wonderful to provide the students with a truly interactive learning experience. The lesson possiblities would be endless. We could have interactive maps, fill in the blank notes, games and webquests that would be easy for all students to see and participate in. Also, since our state was hit by Hurricane Katrina and many of my students were either directly affected or had family that was, we could use the Smart Board to discuss and analyze the impact of the hurricane on our state and region through maps, photographs and charts. So many of my students are accustomed to having information presented in a digital mode, I know that having a resource like a Smart Board would only add to my effectivness in the classroom.
