This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in a highly diverse school, where one-third of our population is English language learners. 18 countries are represented, and 14 different languages are spoken.
I have a variety of students who speak Swahili, Spanish, and Arabic.
They are all very enthusiastic about learning how to read, write, listen, and speak in English. This is my third year as an ESL teacher and fourth project developed through DonorsChoose! I am so excited for my students to receive what they need to thrive in school!
My Project
We will the need basics, like chart paper and markers in order to make and learn from this coming school year. Having charts with a Post-it like backing will make it easier to move and display the charts in different areas around the classroom.
Bright Post-its in different sizes and fluorescent paper will be utilized to enhance, organize, and make charts more interactive for students.
Storage is important for maintaining and referring to charts created throughout the school year. The skirt hangers will attach to and store old charts that can be referred back to when needed. The clothing rack will house the charts on skirt hangers. Three sketch pads will serve as a resource for drafting and collecting charts in a smaller handheld size. These will also be used during instruction to aid individual students and groups as needed.
