My Students
As a teacher in the high poverty/low-income urban district of Philadelphia, the students in my 7th grade science class are warriors. Many of my students have experienced major trauma in their lives. They face challenges everyday that most people cannot imagine but they carry on, showing up to class with inquiring minds and a desire to do hands-on science!
The seventh grade consists of 108 students, all of which receive free lunch and a majority who are one or more grade levels behind in reading and math.
Our school has undergone a complete transformation from the past years and we are building, for the first time in most of our student's academic lives, a culture of academic success and achievement.
As a science teacher, my duty to my students is to provide a high quality, inquiry driven, project based science education and to inspire students to ask questions and make discoveries that will help them further their understanding of science as well as develop a problem solving mindset.
My Project
These supplies and resources will help my students carry out inquiry driven labs and student led research. The money raised from this project will give my students the opportunity to interact with technology in their science class and enhance their learning in so many ways.
With multiple tablets in the classroom, I can incorporate a technology/research element into my small group instruction stations.
Students will learn how to utilize everyday technology to conduct academic research. They will be able to interact with the subject matter on more relevant and intimate terms by watching instructional videos, playing physics games, conducting research and working one on one with the most recent technology!
