My Project
I teach in a school that is culturally and linguistically diverse. My 2nd graders are kind and inquisitive little human beings who thrive on opportunities to move and express their creativity, emotions, and energy. We are often singing, dancing, and making art as well as working on the core subjects of reading/language arts and math. There is a lot of joy in my classroom!
This year, my class is in sore need of good organization space for our backpacks.
My students used to hang their backpacks outside our classroom on metal hooks attached to a wall, but unfortunately, many of these hooks have broken off and cannot be repaired, nor can new hooks be installed. Last year, I had all the children bring their backpacks inside the classroom, where they would be strewn across the floor, in between desks, posing a serious tripping hazard for children and adults alike.
This backpack storage rack would truly be a practical addition to our classroom. In teaching my students how to use it each day, I would be showing them the importance of making sure everything in our class has its proper place. I envision it being an important part of our morning routine--students would be taught to hang up their backpacks, remove essentials such as homework, lunch, books, and other school supplies, and line up where I can greet them at the start of the day.
