This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The motto at our school is “Supporting Student Strengths with Passion, Purpose, and Professionalism.” This project focuses on fostering students’ strengths by adapting materials, so all students can access their curriculum. I created this project because I found a unique need for supplies that will help me modify materials for students, which will help engage and motivate the students. Many of the students I work with come from limited resources and have behavioral, medical, and academic needs. Some of the students live in group/foster homes and it can be a challenge to find motivating activities that will engage them. In addition many students enjoy hands on learning materials that they can manipulate.
I love to incorporate creative art projects, so my students can have a hands on way to express themselves.
In addition, students at this school access their curriculum in unique ways (VOD access, picture icons, gestures, AAC technology, vocalizations, verbalizations, communication core boards, and other functional methods of communication).
My Project
My students love to be creative and expressive themselves through art, but need adaptive art supplies to help with access.
Combining language activities with art projects is a fun and hands on way to make lessons even more meaningful.
Easy-Grip Crayons and Refills- These crayons will be such a benefit to my students because the adaptive grip will allow my students easier access when coloring.
Playfoam Pluffle- This will be a great sensory exploration for my students as well as a wonderful motivator. Students will love to manipulate the Playfoam Pluffle and the item or a picture of the item can be used in communication boards, so students can request it when needed.
Foam Sensory Paint and Chubby Brushes- These items will allow my students to express themselves creatively by giving them adaptive paintbrushes that are easier to grasp and textured paint that is easy and fun to manipulate.
Giant Ink Pads-These will help with so many categories and themes as students use stamps to learn new vocabulary.
