Small Town Students Cross the Country for National FBLA Competitions
My students need lodging in Baltimore, Maryland where they will be competing with thousands of other students from across the United States and other countries in the FBLA events for which they qualified.
Small and mighty describes the students from our close-knit wheat and cattle farming community-small in numbers but mighty in spirit and ambition. This crew amazes me with their ability to juggle so many roles and activities. Being from a small school with only 40 high school students means that each one is needed everywhere as students, club officers, athletes and family members.
These students willingly take on a wide variety of challenges and not only survive, but thrive!
I am so excited to take four students on this amazing adventure so they can return home and inspire their classmates even more!
My Project
Our small and mighty school of 40 high school students took eleven FBLA members to our state's Future Business Leaders of America competition with about 2000 other students. We were so delighted when eight of our eleven students placed in the top ten for their various events with three of them placing in two events. Our state advances four teams in each event to represent Washington State in the national competitions in Baltimore, Maryland. Four of our students accepted the invitation of this golden opportunity to stand tall up against other strong competitors from across our nation and are committed to attending this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
Students will also have the privilege of spending a full day experiencing the sights and history of our nation's capital in "the other" Washington.
One of our freshmen students has only briefly ever been out of state in two neighboring states, so it will especially be an eye opening experience for her. She will return home and be able to share her incredible knowledge and experiences with other students and inspire excellence in their work, so they may someday, too, be invited to compete in a national competition somewhere across our great nation.
Our students will compete in three events: 3-D Animation, Global Business and Introduction to Parliamentary Procedures. They will also be able to observe other students in the finals in a gamut of business and technology related events that may inspire them in new events for next year or for future career pursuits.
