Small Town, Big Dreams: Stories That Speak to Teens

Help me give my students a library filled with authentic, small-town stories that inspire, reflect, and connect with the teens in our community.

My Project

Many of my students come from small towns and rural areas, where life can feel both comforting and limiting. Their stories are rich with community connections, family ties, dreams, and challenges unique to small-town living, but these voices are often missing from our classroom library. This project will bring in novels that capture the real experiences of small-town teens, offering stories that feel personal, relatable, and inspiring. Books that explore friendship, identity, family struggles, love, and the big dreams that push teens to find their own paths beyond the familiar streets they’ve always known.

Having these stories available means my students will finally see themselves reflected in the books they read, and they’ll gain new perspectives on lives different from their own.

These novels will spark meaningful conversations, encourage empathy, and help cultivate a lifelong love of reading. By adding these titles, we create a classroom environment where every student feels seen, heard, and motivated to dream big, no matter where they come from.
