My Project

There are so many social emotional topics that we discuss in the 2nd grade, and one of the most successful ways to spark conversations has been to use picture books. My students respond very well to lessons that are portrayed through literature. These picture books cover a wide range of social emotional topics that can be hard to grasp at the age of 8.

Representative stories that teach social emotional lessons and tools are a great way for students to access and understand various topics.

These books not only teach fantastic lessons and spark conversations about them, but they also have diverse characters that represent different race, gender, ability, cultural identities, and perspectives. This support all students in accessing these topics and creates mirrors and windows for students to see themselves and others through. These books are fantastic resources to support students with social emotional topics and tools. Thank you for your consideration and kindness!
