Hi! My name is Lisa, and I have the honor of teaching some pretty amazing students. My students are medically fragile with unique needs. They are all non verbal. They communicate and participate in various ways. The use of assistive technology is crucial in supporting individual independence. Meeting the unique learning needs of my students in a remote learning setting has quite challenging. The biggest challenge is that they do not have the materials or technology we use in the classroom available to them at home. It is my hope that with your help, we can provide my students with the tools needed to support meaningful learning and independence in school as well as at home.
It is crucial that my students can access their computer, make choices, hold and explore hands-on materials, and use all of their senses in learning.
A multi-sensory teaching approach requires having a variety of materials readily available. It is my goal to provide each student with the materials needed to engage in hands-on activities and remote learning activities at home while supporting the greatest level of independence possible.
My Project
Assistive technology and voice output devices will provide my students with the ability to access their school-issued laptops and interact with their peers and families. Due to the pandemic and the medical fragility of my students, many of my students will be learning at home this school year.
I am beyond thankful that each student will receive a district-issued laptop to access our classroom website, our Google Classroom, and our recently created Bitmoji Classroom, but my students are unable to independently access these resources without the use of assistive technology.
I am am asking you to please consider helping me provide my students with the needed technology in order for them to access these exciting resources!
These tools can be utilized by my students now while they are learning at home and also at school when we are able to return! These adapted tools will be used to access infinite activities and resources for years to come!
