This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our K-8 school within San Diego Unified School District serves a low socioeconomic, ethnically diverse, second language population. We are a Title l school where all students receive free lunch.
Think caring, eager to learn, and one of a kind, these words describe my students.
My moderate/severe classroom is a place to foster creativity and independence for students from Kinder through 4th grade. My classroom is comprised of students with special needs with developmental disabilities including intellectual disabilities and autism. All students have varying needs, abilities, and functioning levels.
My Project
My students need varied activities to work on fine motor skills, independence, and self-regulation skills. These activities will foster independence and increase engagement for some of my students with special needs. These are critical areas to work on with students.
Many of my students with special needs struggle with fine motor skills and independence.
The lacing, matching, and sorting activities will address multiple areas from fine motor to academic areas as well.
Having the trampoline will also allow students to work on areas of self-regulation for when tasks become too difficult and they need a way to manage their frustration.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
