Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our wonderful school is a public school in Chicago that serves a diverse community of 3 to 5 years olds and their families. My classroom is a blended preschool classroom serving typically developing and special needs students. Thirty two students arrive each day eager to play and learn with materials chosen specifically for them in an environment designed to inspire.
I want to build on students’ strengths and meet their needs by utilizing high quality learning resources and tools.
Students utilize a variety of materials each day as they play and build relationships in our classroom. By choosing to select materials that are developmentally appropriate and made of the best materials, I am assisting students in acquiring academic skills and fostering their social emotional development. I appreciate your support in helping me achieve that goal.
My Project
Students build their fine motor skills through practice. These materials will allow students to build the muscles in their fingers, hands, and wrists as well as build precision and coordination. Students will enjoy getting stronger as they cut, button, hold, pinch, twist, and turn objects. The physical attributes of the materials also provide opportunities to embed literacy and mathematical concepts into the learning.
Building students' fine motor skills early on in their academic careers prepare them for the more complicated academic tasks they will engage in later on in higher grades.
The students small hands are ready to accomplish big feats. All we need are the tools.
