Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are eager to see the world as an exciting and wonder-filled place. Our school is a Title I school, which means we have a high percentage of students living in poverty. Even with the hardships they face, my students still arrive to school eager to learn and grow.

100% of our students are eligible for free lunch and breakfast and many of them are "backpack kids", receiving a backpack of snacks each weekend so they don't go hungry.

Many of their parents work multiple jobs to provide for their families and my students frequently care for younger siblings while their parents work. Despite all the challenges they face, my students still arrive at school eager to learn and grow. My students and their families see education as a key to their success and I am honored to play a role in their journey.

My Project

A large component of meeting my students' needs involves small group teaching. Small group teaching allows me to meet each of my students' unique needs and allows me to immediately help struggling students. Students are grouped by their talents and interests and receive personalized instruction with their small group.

A small group table allows me to work closely with every student in the group, something that is not easily achieved when desks must be shuffled and rearranged.

I don't know why, but my students LOVE stools. They are constantly trying to sneak onto my teacher stool. With the stools and wobble discs, students will see small group time as a treat and a chance to sit in the "fun" seats.
