Small Group Success!

My students need supplies to help them have successful small groups.

My Students

My students come from a low income neighborhood and face struggles and challenges on a daily basis. Included in their daily challenges are often times financial struggles. All of my students receive a free breakfast and lunch every school day. My goal is to make the classroom a fun and welcoming environment where they can learn and grow regardless of what goes on outside of school. Even with what these kids face on a daily basis, they come to school with a positive outlook and a love for learning!

With the income restrictions placed on the families that I serve, many of my students do not have access to supplies to help them thrive.

My kids love to play, read, move, and everything else that your average kindergartner does in a day. I cannot control what goes on outside of my classroom, but I take pride in what goes on inside of it. I want to make sure that my students strive and that they have what they need to be successful and continue their love of learning.

My Project

My students rotate for small group instruction every day for both reading and math. They have become experts at rotating and working hard in both independent and teacher lead groups. We have been rotating and working in small groups since the beginning of the school year. As we are approaching Christmas break and our second semester, our class supplies are running low.

My students work well in their groups, but they need supplies to be successful.

We work with our individual white boards and smart pals regularly in our small groups. It is no surprise that we have gone through our supply already. My students are having to switch and use the thick markers that we use for the big board. This is challenging for them as their work in smart pals often require the thin tip markers. We also would love chart paper. We use chart paper for many things in our room from anchor charts to class stories. We are in need of new sheets. Finally, I am asking for a large time timer. This timer has a red bar that shrinks as the time goes. This allows my students to see how much time is remaining before we switch groups.
