The students that my team and I work with are 7th and 8th graders and are special needs students. Many of them come from home that have working parents/guardians and therefore do not always have a great deal of time with assistance from an adult at home.
My Project
The group of students that I work with this year are in an Integrated Co-Teaching class, meaning they have a general education teacher and a special education teacher in their core subject area classes. As the special education teacher, I have the opportunity to work in small groups with these students to practice skills more, go over parts of the lesson or assignment that might have been confusing, or help in any way possible with what they need to succeed. This year, we are not able to work in small groups the way that we usually would due to needing to follow social distancing guidelines. There is an option to work with the small group of students in the hallway but that would mean sitting on the floor. With the use of these floor cushions though, working in the hallway would be much more enjoyable for these students and they would be better able to focus.
