The teachers at my school are some of the most hard-working people I've ever met! They really want to provide the best instruction they can for our students. The teachers at our school need magnetic letters and cookie sheets so they can build on their students' phonics skills during small group lessons! This project will allow me to provide a box of magnetic letters for each of my kinder and first grade teachers, along with 3 cookie sheets for each of them to use in small groups. We use the cookie sheets to hold a set of letters for each student when they come to the small group table. It is a necessary practice for our students to manipulate letters in their hands (and in their minds!) as they are learning to read and write. There is so much learning going on when students build the word cat, then change it to pat, then change it to pan, and then change it to pen! They have practiced listening for and isolating initial, medial, and final sounds all in one simple word chain!
I have also included other resources that would directly benefit our students, such as new books and lamination pouches for literacy and math activities for centers and small group practice.
