This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a high poverty school where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch! I have high expectations that they will grow and learn beyond what is expected. We are learning skills such as robotics, coding, and typing along with our curriculum. School is a safe and happy place for my students. Each day, they come into the classroom excited about the day and spending time exploring and learning together in small groups! For many of my students, being at school is the best part of their day.
My Project
I am requesting new staplers and tape dispensers for my classroom to replace the old staplers that consistently jam and tape dispensers that come apart causing student (and teacher) frustration during center-based and small group learning times. Our classroom would benefit tremendously from these new items! It would save learning time by allowing for students to efficiently and easily staple papers, which would allow for them to quickly get back to their learning centers. It would also end the interruptions that my small groups receive when independent workers are clearly frustrated after attempting to try and fix the equipment. It would simply be music to all our ears to hear a stapler do it's job and not to see tape rolling across the floor.
These new staplers and tape dispensers would allow for more learning and less frustration to happen in my classroom.
Building independence and problem solving skills in early grades is a daunting task and when little things like a jammed stapler cause unneeded frustrations, it truly is "the small things that count"! The impact of learning time saved is essential as a majority of my students are below grade level so every minute counts!
