My Project

I have the most amazing students ever! My students are learning so much and are having fun doing it. Just as many other students in the world, COVID has had a profound impact on many students' learning journey. This is apparent in my class and many other across the country by way of low reading and math scores. Technology has been a beneficial tool in ensuring that students have access to instruction. However, it has also replaced good old fashioned, hands on learning. Many of my second graders are behind in their social, fine motor, and cognitive developmental skills. So much so that many of them are struggling with writing, spelling, and grasping essential mathematical concepts. This is where small group instruction is vital. I have been working with small groups to enhance phonetic awareness, phonemic awareness, reading comprehension, as well as math fluency skills. My second graders love our small group time so much!

It is within small group that I am able to give my students specialized instruction to develop the areas in which they struggle.

I can see their confidence growing every day! I teach at a school within the heart of a poverty stricken environment. The socioeconomic restraints resulting from such presents as a direct obstacle as it pertains to my students' opportunities to get access to adequate materials for learning.

Unfortunately resources are limited in my school building, and I must create my own material to accompany, and in many cases enhance, the curriculum. I am requesting a Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, laminating pouches, as well as hands-on math and reading resources.
