Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students in our school have a very special place in my heart–mostly because I went to our school as a kid. I was fortunate enough to have everything I needed as a learner but these students are truly in need of materials to make their lives a little easier.
The coronavirus pandemic has made me reflect on the needs of my students and my classroom.
They are primarily from low income, Spanish-speaking families. Our school is a Title I school, and our neighborhood is a very diverse community with many low income families just getting by.
My Project
Now that my students will be back at school part-time, through the blended learning teaching style, I will have 1/3 of the students I normally have in class at one time. This will allow me to focus on their specific needs and teach to those needs. The magnetic letters will help my second graders work on sight words, phonics, phonemic awareness, and word study in our class. The post it’s will allow my students to jot about reading and comment on each other's writing. I am so excited that I get to go back into the classroom and help my students improve their skills.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
