My Students
I am an elementary teacher in a large K-5 elementary school in a high-poverty, urban school district. We have over 800 students. They have many challenges, but they look forward to coming to school because it is a safe and nurturing place.
Most of my students don't have access to many books or much technology at home.
They absolutely love working on the various learning tools we have in our classroom. Many of them, regardless of the grade level, look forward to coming to the computer lab.
My Project
Computer technology is not just about typing and how to surf the internet. Instruction is also given using the Google Suite and Google Classroom. In addition to lessons on internet safety, social media responsibility, and coding. It is often beneficial and helpful to have a mentor text or story that younger students can relate to their lesson. It is also a great way to apply cross curricular teaching strategies used during their Reading Workshop lessons.
It will be wonderful to have fiction and non-fiction books that students can read that connect to our lessons and feature popular topics and characters.
I need new books so I can continue with our read-aloud segment in my K-2 classes. The 3rd graders like this also. Of course, all of the books will remain available for students to read during "free time" when their classwork is complete. My 4th and 5th graders are given access to borrow books to use for projects and research in their other subjects. These books will be a wonderful addition to a constantly expanding classroom library.
