Small But Mighty Mathematicians

My Students

My students are thirty-six energetic three, four, and five year olds who are eager to learn. They come from many different family backgrounds and are each unique in their own way. They are encountering their very first school experience which will set the foundation for the rest of their educational career.

The primary mode of learning for my students is play.

Students participate in "work time" each day when they are able to play in different centers. They are able to choose from areas such as blocks, dramatic play, reading, sensory, writing, art, music, and more. Play is where they learn most of their early math and literacy skills.

My preschoolers love to interact with their friends and learn new things. They are excited about the different center areas and each new thing I bring into our classroom.

My Project

At our preschool, we work on early math skills such as counting, number recognition, shape recognition, patterning, and making comparisons during our daily activities. These materials will help to create an exciting math interest center in my classroom where students can choose to go and play during their free choice time each day. These materials will help us teach math skills to students in a fun, engaging, child-centered, and developmentally appropriate way. Having a variety of materials will give students plenty of options for learning new math skills. These materials will help create a foundation for and interest in math.
