Since the pandemic, many children have entered preschool experiencing stress, anxiety, fear, sadness, and loneliness. Some students even have difficulty concentrating or struggle with memory problems. This calming corner will be a designated space in our classroom with the sole intent of being a safe space for children to go to when they feel they are experiencing strong emotions and need to regain their emotional and physical control.
Help me provide my calming corner with books, fidget tools, and things to hang on the wall to help my students regain their emotional and physical control.
These calming items will allow students to work on identifying their emotions, practice calming techniques, and complete a feelings check-in to be able to return back to our classroom activities. The books will be used daily to help teach and reinforce skills to help them with their strong emotions.
In a calming corner, unnecessary noise is avoided, creating a relaxed and calm environment. The benefits of having a calming corner are increased focus and productivity in classroom tasks. As well as having an opportunity to engage deeply with the activity, which in turn results in improved learning.
