Help me give my students and their families the basics they need without shame or embarrassment to make this back to school extra special knowing they have the support of generous people who feel their need.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My amazing 8th graders will soon be moving on to the world of high school with it's own set of obstacles and socio-emotional challenges and I am going to do my absolute best to prepare them to face that bravely and smartly. They are energetic, caring, and inquisitive young adults who just need that energy harnessed into its full potential.
Distance learning does not have to mean deficits in learning.
I am confident in my abilities to give them the same high-quality education they have always received from me but I will need a little more help to make that happen this year. My students, their families, and I would be so honored and appreciative of any help we receive to make up for learning loss and thrive in this new digital environment. I am excited for this new challenge!
My Project
The majority of our families were impacted greatly by the pandemic, both personally and financially. I have seen the embarrassment and shame of students and parents confessing that they need help with basic supplies and even food staples at home due to job loss or illness.
My dream for this especially challenging back to school season is for my kids to walk in to a well stocked classroom where they don't have to find the strength to lie to their teachers and say, "My parents said they will buy it next week." I would love to take an extra financial strain off of their parents and have us just get down to business.
I know my students and their parents appreciate everything we do for them and it makes us feel like more of a family. We need that more than ever. These basic school supplies will go a long way and will make a big impact in the lives of my students as they know they have to support of so many people who care for them as much as I do.
