This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My classroom is home to 45 fourth graders who come in everyday striving to "Level up and Lead". Teaching two ELA blocks while incorporating writing and social studies takes a lot of organization and materials. Headphones, writing tablets and essential school supplies will directly impact student learning because they are the necessary tools to help them engage with ELA and writing.
Technology plays a huge part in what we do each day in the classroom.
Our “Wildly Important Goal” is to meet or exceed an 80% on iReady lessons weekly. One of our action steps to achieve this is to wear headphones the entire duration of the lesson. Many of our headphones are no longer working and I would love to be able to provide a class set to eliminate this dilemma.
Writing tablets are another great tool to solve a challenge we face daily during class discussions. White boards have always been a go to for interaction and responses during lessons, but students are losing their engagement when markers dry out and the stains simply won’t wipe off. Writing tablets are the latest durable technology. I keep thinking of how amazing it would be to save time, markers, paper and ink with just one drawing board!
There are many components to reading, annotating, and responding to critical content. Highlighters, scissors, and glue sticks are needed constantly for note booking and interacting with the text hands on. Essential supplies like these can really help students dive deeper, and one can never have too many pencils am I right?
I truly believe these materials will influence my students and help close achievement gaps. It ensures they will have access to rich and relevant learning experiences. High quality materials will help aid in their comprehension, enhance critical thinking, and strengthen note booking.
