Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I am the guidance counselor at PreK-8th grade school in rural North Florida. We are a Title 1 school and 100% of our students qualify for free breakfast and lunch.

My students may be disadvantaged because of their socioeconomic status but there is no limit to their future possibilities.

They are clever and eager to learn about the world outside of our community.

My Project

These materials will be used during a monthly reward party for students who have not had any behavior referrals. Our Positive Behavior Team has planned to take students on a virtual field trip to the International Space Station where astronauts will show them how to make slime in space and explain the science behind the slime.

After the virtual field trip, high school volunteers will work with small groups to make slime so students can take some home as a souvenir, along with some space treats.

This motivating experience will reward our hard-working, well-behaved students and encourage their classmates to work hard to earn a ticket to the next monthly reward party.
