My students need ingredients to make more slime. They love the slime station, but we need more glue, glitter, and 25 containers to be able to have a slime station once our current slime dries up.
We are a Young Fives' classroom of learners that come from a school with a large group of free and reduced lunch students. We have a lot of students who are in poverty and students who have experienced trauma in their lives. Regardless of this, they are eager, excited, and ready to learn new things! Even though they all come from different backgrounds, they have one thing in common, a teacher who loves them and wants them to succeed.
This is an important year in their lives and having fun learning centers can help them build a foundation and lifetime love of learning and exploring their creativity.
My Project
My students love to be creative. I have a classroom full of sensory seeking kiddos. The slime station is one of their favorite centers. They like to kneed it, smash it, poke it, roll it, stretch it and even bounce it. Although, the bouncing fun has been banned here at school in my classroom. Some like the sparkly slime. Some like the translucent slime. Some like the slime that has jewels hidden in it. Some have a particular color they like. With the glue, glitter, and air-tight containers, I would like to make 23-25 different containers of slime. I plan on asking them what color and kind they want and making a bin for each one to have at the station. That doesn't mean they can't share or trade, but it would be fun for each to kind of plan their own.
