Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students that receive additional support through the Special Education program at my school live in Northern Colorado. They attend a Title I school where a large percentage of students face poverty, food insecurity, and other hard to overcome obstacles. All of my students have additional academic needs, and some have behavioral or emotional needs as well. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many are learning English as a second language. Students come to school and are met with kindness, love and patience to ensure that school is a safe place they want to be.
Even though my students have faced many adversities within their young lives, they excitedly attend school every single day where they are driven to learn new things, and grow into future world changers and leaders.My students are kindergarten, first, and fourth graders who love to learn, read, and explore things with their hands.
The countdown to summer is on... my students excitedly look forward to summer and the many activities that they have planned for the summer. These canvas bags will be customized with each child's name and will be filled with their extra school materials, the flash cards, books, and then all the extras (beach balls, bubbles, sun glasses, etc.) will be added. Preventing the post summer academic slide is so important and providing these bags full of academic supports and fun materials will help my students come back ready for next year!
