Growing up in the city has lots of opportunities for students, but lacks one of the biggest advantages that rural and suburban kids have - access to the outdoors!
I teach a wonderful group of 1st grade students.
They are bright, inquisitive, and just overall nice kids! Our school is located in Brownsville, Brooklyn, where we are frequently reminded that we are also home to the highest density of projects in the entire country. But as a school, we prefer to spend our time thinking of ways to enhance our students' lives, and not focusing on the three different homeless shelters that border our building. Growing up in Nebraska, I loved (and still love) the outdoors and learning about nature. Unfortunately for my students, they don't have this same opportunity.
Staff at our school work really hard to provide students with memorable, educational opportunities, that will last them for the rest of their lives. This year, we are working on organizing a camping trip for our students. Every student should have the opportunity to experience the outdoors and enjoy nature! One thing that is missing for our camping trip is sleeping bags. None of my students have sleeping bags, and I know that these can be really costly for families. I am requesting a set of 35 sleeping bags for my students to use on their upcoming camping trip. Not only will they use the sleeping bags this year, but they will be able to use them for years to come!
This is a donation that will not only provide this year's students with a once in a lifetime opportunity, but one that can be used by future classes.
Every student should have the opportunity to go camping. Please help to provide this to my kids!
