This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are creative, thoughtful, and full of questions!

They come to school each day ready to try new things and take brave chances in order to grow both personally and academically.

They always want to improve and push themselves. Truly, they are my inspiration!

My Project

Sled Dog racing, especially in Alaska, is an incredibly engaging and exciting informational topic for students to learn about! I want to teach this through informational research with authentic texts AND a nonfiction novel study of the book Woodsong by Gary Paulsen. Having new Woodsong books can help the students dive into the world of the Iditarod Race and Gary Paulsen, the author of Woodsong.

Woodsong, a higher level memoir by Gary Paulsen will definitely enhance their excitement.

While reading Woodsong my students reading skills and strategies will be practiced each and every day. In addition to reading skills becoming stronger my students will be able to work on their research skills by researching a musher, tracking certain dogs and even work on some math skills such as elapsed time.

This book will teach my students many lessons surrounding perseverance and hard work, two lessons that are essential for them to become the very best version of themselves.
