SLAM Books 2024-2025 (Grades 3-5)

Help me give my students the opportunity to read all the SLAM books for this school year!

This project expired on November 20, 2024.

My Project

Seeing the world through the eyes of another person:

We’ll start by reading parts of the SLAM Books where characters face different challenges.

We’ll discuss how they might feel and what they might think. This will help us understand their perspectives better.

We can do role-playing activities where we pretend to be characters from the books. This way, we can see things from their point of view and talk about how their feelings might be different from ours.

Working toward alleviating suffering in others:

We’ll work on projects together inspired by what we’ve read in the SLAM Books. For example, if a book talks about helping the environment, we might talk our school recycling program.

We’ll also look for chances to help others in our community.

After we finish our projects, we’ll talk about what we did and how it made a difference. It’s important to see how our actions can help make things better for others.

Measuring our understanding of compassion:

We will create charts or checklists to see how well we’re showing empathy and understanding in our discussions and projects.

We will also get to evaluate our own work and that of your classmates. This way, we can see how everyone is doing in understanding compassion and helping others.

We will keep notes on how we participate and how we've grown in showing empathy and compassion. It’ll be exciting to see how much we can learn and how much we can help others together!

By focusing on these activities, we’ll not only enjoy the SLAM Books but also learn important skills like understanding others’ feelings and making a positive impact in our community.
