My students need a printer, and laptop to discover Skype, the world and a learning community that will engage my students in a new learning modality for enrichment!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The opportunity to become part of an international teaching community is here. Using Skype in the classroom brings culture to our finger tips. Technology is the key to success and exposure is a must. My students need a printer and laptop to learn new skills in math, science, writing, and reading.
My 29 students are very motivated by technology.
They come from low income families and many don't have access to a computer. At the same time our school is struggling to become more immersed in technology but budget constraints set us back. In fact, our computers date back to 2004 and need constant care. My students are 21st century learners and are DNA programmed to learn via technology. They are amazingly inquisitive and look forward to learning. I ponder on why all students can't have the same access to technology. I want them to gain the skills and strategies that will help their future. My students need help to succeed in a technology driven world. They will benefit from daily exposure to an interactive tool like Skype.
My Project
Why not Skype? It's the new teaching inspiration not just for students but teachers, too. Just imagine connecting to the world, other classrooms, learning videos, and library links that engage students and motivate the young learner. This laptop will bring a teaching community to our classroom and enable my students to be a part of a great culture exchange without leaving our classroom. Also, printing their work to share with parents is important. This laptop will be used to enhance math skills, language arts, and science. We can create projects and partner with our sister school in China thus giving students a new way to discover new cultures, new languages, and new learning strategies through Skype. Our learning curriculum demands change to better shape the future of our kindergarten learners in order to succeed as 21st century students. What motivation! It's so exciting to see, hear, and retrieve information via the Internet with a laptop.
The question to Skype or not to Skype is in our hands, but we cannot deny the opportunities it offers my students.
The classroom must provide a rich education that motivates and engages students in learning. The impact is priceless. To Skype demands new technology like the HP laptop and, printer to connect our units of study with the support of shared links and other teachers. It's inspirational. We need your support to help students learn. Be a part of a community of educators.
