Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first chapter book that you couldn't put down? Our third grade readers are improving their reading skills so fast that their reading levels are BEYOND third grade and beyond what books we have in our library.

Our school is incredibly ethnically diverse with a majority of students on free or reduced lunch.

While neighboring schools still struggle to meet their standardized test scores, our school has been leading the ways with some of the highest scores in our city for two years. Over ninety-two percent of our students meet or exceed on their standardized test scores each year. We don't stop there, but continue to challenge each learner with a personalized education plan with goals that each teacher, student and parent commit to achieving. Our parent community is exemplary, not only in supporting their children as scholars, but in countless hours of in and out of school volunteering. To complete this amazing combination, our school is run by incredible administrators and teachers and support staff. Our staff works together to make each day count for each and every scholar.

My Project

The best way to become a better reader is to read, read, READ! Currently, our class library has more than one thousand books, but very few books at the higher levels (T, U, V, W, X, Y and Z). Fourteen of our twenty-eight students are reading at these higher levels. The students who are reading at these levels have very few choices and resort to reading easier books, which keep them reading, but doesn't help them grow as readers. This project will bring many higher level reading books to our eager readers. Given these new books, our scholars will be able to read at their own reading level in class and at home. The new high quality books will be interesting and will grab their interest and keep them growing and learning! Each day that I bring in a few new higher level books my student explode in controlled happiness! This donation will absolutely cause them to request bonus reading time!

This project will help each scholar grow and exceed the expectations we have set for them as a country.

Strong readers create strong learners. Our scholars have already set goals to attend selective enrollment city high-schools and universities all over the country. They work each day to make that goal a reality. Help me give them the books to get them there.
