SkillsUSA members are Career and Technical Education students. These motivated, talented individuals excel in their programs of study. Programs include Early Childhood, Digital Graphics, Nursing Assistant, Co-Op, and Pre-Engineering. Students are nominated by their instructor to participate in competitions.
Many of these students are also members of our CTE Leadership team and National Technical Honor Society.
They participate in community service projects such as our clothing closet, Camp Sunshine, and Make-A-Wish sponsorship. They also volunteer with non-profit organization events and our local elementary school career days and craft fairs.
My Project
We had 6 state gold medalists this year (Early Childhood, Pin-Design, T-shirt Design and Community Service). Gold medal winners are eligible to compete at the national level in Louisville Kentucky, along with 7,000 students from around the country. This week-long event consists of competitions as well as a career and college exposition with national corporations, members of the military and college recruiters. There are innovative displays of technology and engineering that open students’ minds to new possibilities. Because gold medal SkillsUSA members are some of the top performing kids in the country, some businesses conduct interviews and hire students at the event.
Students build relationships with new people from a multitude of backgrounds.
There is state pin-trading which helps them begin conversations and learn about people from all over the country. During their competitions, they are able to make connections with other young adults who share a common interest as they gain valuable skills to help them with their future employment.
