This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Science suggests that sketchnotes boost comprehension and retention. It forces students to synthesize the content with text and visuals. To make this a reality, I am requesting supplies that will help each student create their unique sketchnote in color. Color is an important component of note taking and has been shown to be tied to memory.

My goal is to start the year with sketchnotes, an alternative note-taking practices which has a 50/50 mix of text and sketches, colors, and different prompts which prompt students to organize their thoughts visually.

The brain retains information better if it is taken in both visually and verbally. Sketchnotes are less passive than traditional note-taking and requires students to synthesize information.

I teach a range of amazing students from ninth grade Biology, to English Language Learners. At all levels, students will benefit from being active leaners pushes students to actively process and make sense of what they’re learning. I plan to use this for both content and for our lab/activity data analysis pages.

I am a hands-on teacher but my notes are not there...yet. With your help we can be!
